Yes, it’s that time again. It’s time to talk about Wildstar once more. Yes, again. The question I know you are all asking is: “Why?” Yeah, I know it’s probably my most talked about game since FFXIV, but there is good reason to this. I’ve stated it a ton of times that I believe in this game, and have supported it since it’s inception. Bought the game on release, and have had a on and off sub since launch. (Currently I am subbed to the game though.) Yes, the doom and gloom is still around, but a new raid was released, and a lot of cross-faction stuff is on the horizon. Hooray, I know cross-faction has been talked about a lot, and has been wanted for some time now.
In this post I want to talk about two things about the game that I feel like I just need to talk about and get off of my chest. One is about Pappylicious, and one is about the future of the game. Let’s get started shall we?
For those of you who don’t know Chad “Pappylicious” Moore is the Game Director over at Carbine Studios, which means he is the Game Director of “Wildstar”. Now, I wish I could have the chance to sit down with him and talk for a prolong time, but I’ve had some brief conversations with him, cheering him on about Wildstar. I wish I could pick his brain about the future of the game, and what’s in store but I know he is a busy man. You might be wondering why I would want to talk specifically about this man, and if you are I don’t blame you. Pappy for me, and some other people I have talked to about the game has been a light in the darkness so to say.
He has given me and others some hope about the game and the future of it. Yes, we are all well aware what Carbine should have done in the past, and how they could have salvaged it sooner, but that’s not the point. We need to stop living in the past when it comes to this game, and focus on the present and future. As cheesy and silly as that sounds, it’s true. I cannot stress this enough when talking about “Wildstar”. When people talk about Wildstar, they always focus on the past and the negativity around launch. It’s a common theme with MMORPGs that have a less than stellar start. “First impressions matter most!” Yes, they do but people have been saying for two years now, the game is going to die! Doom and gloom! Has it yet? No. Will it? No. I’ve been saying this for a long time as well. This game will not die anytime soon.
For those of you who haven’t played in forever, and are hesitant about it. There is no downside to it. The game has a extremely fair free to play system, and all you would be wasting if you don’t like it, would be your time. That doesn’t sound so bad to me. The game has vastly improved, and keeps getting better with each update. I mentioned before cross-faction is coming into play soon, and that will bring a lot of fun to the game. Let’s get back to the subject: Pappy. I know you a very busy man, and have a lot on your plate, but I would ask of you one thing: Transparency. Well, more of it. You gave us “The Phuture from Pappy” but we need more things like that. Whether it would be every month, or every two months. We need something to tide us over. Hope, news, whatever you want to call it. Silence for the doomsayers maybe? I mean, I guess we all always have doomsayers…
There isn’t much else to say about this, because there was only one thing I wanted to say specifically to Pappy. Let’s talk about the phuture shall we, and we are going to talk about big picture stuff here, alright? Alright then, let’s begin. The future of this game looks bright and I have always said this about Wildstar. Is it as bright as it once was? Of course, the game has a lot of exciting features coming down the pipeline. What does the game truly need for the future besides what coming down the pipeline? Generally, MMORPGs have content releases that either had new raids, dungeons, pvp things, and etc. The fact of the matter is, Carbine Studios doesn’t have enough resources right now to make all these huge expansions to the game. Sad, but true. Instead of all of that, we need more events like “Shade’s Eve” and smaller type of content patches. More housing options, more lore. Did I mention the Lore in Wildstar is amazing? Smaller things that can keep us going until you release something bigger, you know? I understand the situation you are in, but we all need to make the best of it. Yes, it sucks for players like me that want huge content patches, but under the circumstances, I can understand and survive for now.
The game has plenty for me to do, and with more of RMT coming, I’ll be busy for awhile, and hopefully others will be to. I’m not saying we need a new raid every six months, but new quests, story, etc will suffice. I know people will complain when we don’t have new raids, or dungeons. That will happen with every MMORPG. I mean, honestly we are the generation of complaining. We all do it, don’t lie. I’ve done it. I’ll admit it, I complain at times, but I also need to take into account the circumstances. There are always smaller things to fix here and there. Just keep them coming, small or large.
The Wildstar community is an amazing one. I’ve never seen such a community like it. In-game and out of game. I’ve met a ton of nice people through the in-game nexus chat, and met more new people everyday. It seems it’s always been this way as well. The small community is growing, and even with it growing it’s still kept that warm, welcoming party. I hope it always keeps this, because for new players and returning players this is what they need. A very warm welcoming, but one of the best communities out there. Honestly, I can’t really think of a better community than Wildstars.
In closing, I just really want to commend Pappy for doing an amazing job so far, and please keep up the good work. I’ve said it once, but I will say it again: The community loves you and all the hard work you have put into the game. For those who haven’t tried the game or haven’t played in awhile, please try the game out again. If you don’t like it still, there is no loss except for time. Like I said before, the game has an extremely fair free to play system. In the second post for this, I will expand on a little more about in-game. This post was really more to talk about the future and Pappylicious. Therefore in the next post I will be talking about in-game has changed for the better. I’ve talked a lot about this in the past but over multiple posts. I would like to make another addition to this just going over it all in one singular post. This way readers will not have to go back into the blog history and find all the previous Wildstar posts.
Again, I understand that this is another post on the game I’ve talked a lot about, but it’s one I have always believed in, and we all should to. The game hasn’t shut down in two years, and has no intention to. I firmly believe that Wildstar in on the right track for a bright future. I hope you all read the next installment to understand the changes that have gone into the actual game. (In-game stuffs) I want you all to understand how I feel inside and outside of the game. Two perspectives on it! Hooray right? Maybe, you don’t care how you feel on the outside and just on the actual gameplay, which is fine. I’ll get to that in the next post I promise. If you find this post boring, I apologize for that. I really wanted to get this one out before the in-game feature one. I hope you all can understand that and look forward to the next installment! Thank you again for all the continued support! See you all in the Nexus!
